Jongpil Jeong

Researcher in computational imaging, image signal processing, and computer vision

I am Jongpil Jeong, a Researcher at the 3D Optical Imaging Systems Lab., Kyushu Institute of Technology since April 2026, advised by Prof. Min-Chul Lee.

My work sits between image signal processing, computational imaging, and computer vision. I am especially interested in making visual information reliable when ordinary imaging breaks down: scattering media, low-light scenes, noisy holographic measurements, and non-destructive biological inspection.

Research Focus

  • Visibility enhancement in harsh environments
Scattering media removal, adaptive masking, Peplography, ARMS, and photon-counting based image restoration.

  • Computational and biomedical imaging
Digital holographic microscopy, three-dimensional imaging, noise reduction, Kalman filtering, and image reconstruction.

  • Computer vision for non-destructive inspection
Pre-hatching sex determination for poultry eggs using optical sensing, image recognition, and machine learning.

Current Themes

Scattering Media Removal and Visibility Enhancement

I develop image restoration methods for scenes degraded by scattering, haze, turbidity, and extreme visibility conditions. Recent work includes adaptive mask-based scatter removal in the spatial frequency domain and ARMS extensions for fire and rescue scenarios.

Digital Holographic Microscopy

I study noise reduction and optimization methods for digital holographic microscopy, with attention to stable three-dimensional reconstruction and measurement under noisy conditions.

In-Ovo Sexing and Applied Computer Vision

I also work on non-destructive pre-hatching sex determination for poultry eggs with collaborators from Hitachi Solutions Create, Ltd., NARO, and Kyushu Institute of Technology.
